How To Care For Your Leather Pillows

Unlike most other types of pillows, leather pillows require special care and cleaning techniques. If you want your product to last a very long time then proper regularly scheduled care is of the utmost importance.  Here are a few tips to consider to keep your pillow in tip top shape:

- Never allow your pillow to be exposed to excessive heat. Fireplaces and furnaces will dry your pillow out rather quickly and make the leather crack.

- Never place your pillow made of leather in the direct sunlight as it will surely be damaged by the UV rays. Much like the sun rays will damage carpet or other fabric they will certainly discolor your leather.

- Make sure that you use a leather cleaner on your pillow. Find a product that is wipe on and wipe off easy that will ensure that you don’t get lazy in your pillow care. These products not only clean but also condition and protect your pillow made of leather. One thing to always remember though is to use these products in a well ventilated area as they are quite odorous and can be dangerous is inhaled.

- Don’t allow anyone to sit on your pillow or lean against it. Now this one might sound a bit harsh, particularly if you pillow is on the couch. However, leather is meant for looks and if it has weight placed on it the possibility of stretching or wrinkling is quite possible.

- Never allow your pillow to come in contact with water or any other liquid including sweat. Why? Quite simply liquids will easily stain your precious leather and those stains are very hard to get rid of.

- If your leather product does become stained by oil or grease than here is a little trick to get the stain out: break up and grind some standard blackboard chalk and sprinkle the chalk dust over the stain. Once you have let this sit for at least one full day you can use a leather cleaning brush to take away the chalk and the stain will go away with it!

If you care for your leather pillow in the ways described above then your product should give you many years of use. Leather is actually quite durable but must be cared for and maintained much like any other product in your household. With leather, a little TLC goes a long way in ensuring a beautiful product. Given the price, you’ll want to make sure you protect your investment by following the above care steps.
