Unlike most other types of pillows, leather pillows require special care and cleaning techniques. If you want your product to last a very long time then proper regularly scheduled care is of the utmost importance. Here are a few tips to consider to keep your pillow in tip top shape:

- Never allow your pillow to be exposed to excessive heat. Fireplaces and furnaces will dry your pillow out rather quickly and make the leather crack.

- Never place your pillow made of leather in the direct sunlight as it will surely be damaged by the UV rays. Much like the sun rays will damage carpet or other fabric they will certainly discolor your leather.

- Make sure that you use a leather cleaner on your pillow. Find a product that is wipe on and wipe off easy that will ensure that you don’t get lazy in your pillow care. These products not only clean but also condition and protect your pillow made of leather. One thing to always remember though is to use these products in a well ventilated area as they are quite odorous and can be dangerous is inhaled.

- Don’t allow anyone to sit on your pillow or lean against it. Now this one might sound a bit harsh, particularly if you pillow is on the couch. However, leather is meant for looks and if it has weight placed on it the possibility of stretching or wrinkling is quite possible.

- Never allow your pillow to come in contact with water or any other liquid including sweat. Why? Quite simply liquids will easily stain your precious leather and those stains are very hard to get rid of.

- If your leather product does become stained by oil or grease than here is a little trick to get the stain out: break up and grind some standard blackboard chalk and sprinkle the chalk dust over the stain. Once you have let this sit for at least one full day you can use a leather cleaning brush to take away the chalk and the stain will go away with it!

If you care for your leather pillow in the ways described above then your product should give you many years of use. Leather is actually quite durable but must be cared for and maintained much like any other product in your household. With leather, a little TLC goes a long way in ensuring a beautiful product. Given the price, you’ll want to make sure you protect your investment by following the above care steps.

When you are trying to decorate a room quite often leather pillows are an excellent choice. These versatile decorator items can be used on couches, window sills, and on chairs. By using leather pillows it allows the decorator to add a sense of rustic style. Classy, yet a bit on the rough side, leather adds a new dynamic to a living space. What are the best pillows made of? What colors do the leather pillows come in? And most importantly, how can we integrate these into a decorative space?

Leather, when used in furniture or pillows, comes in many colors and qualities. From chocolate, bronze, cowhide, or red, leather can be used in many types of situations. Our favorite way to use the different colors is to offset the item we are trying to decorate. For instance a black or white couch would make a red leather pillow stand out. Along with other decorative items these could actually be used to make the room pop. Since leather can be treated to maintain any color the possibilities are endless.

One thing to consider when purchasing your pillow is the quality of the leather. You see, leather comes in many grades and each grade has a different look and feel. The softest leathers are thought to come from Brazil where leather makers take their trade very seriously. You want to make sure that you purchase only 100% natural cowhide. You also want to touch the material and make sure it is pleasing to the touch. The leather should be soft and supple and have a richness about it. Another consideration is the size of your product. In our opinion small pillows really don’t have much dramatic effect. In most cases you’ll want to choose a large or oversized pillow in order for it to stand out and make a statement. Something larger than 16 inches in diameter are recommended for most living spaces.

Yet another consideration for your leather pillows will be their shape. Pillows made of leather can be found in as many shapes and sizes as your imagination could fathom. Although there are pillows made in the shapes of animals, cars, small children and other oddities, our recommendation is for the standard rectangular or square pillows. If you are looking to achieve a classy arrangement using leather then a standard or classical shape is important.

For most shoppers price will also play a role in their leather pillow purchase. Although prices range from roughly $50.00 up to $350.00 for a standard 18 inch model, the quality of the leather will determine the ultimate cost. The sweet spot in our opinion is pillows in the $150.00 range as these offer the best mix of quality and value.
